Huang Chia-Ning

Biography

Huang Chia-Ning continues her realistic painting of life scenes and brings back memories of life by precisely depicting a balance between reality and perception. The approach of the artist is to use 4x6 inch or smaller photographs for sketching, take the information from the photographs as the content of her paintings, and faithfully depict the image to express the differences between perfect photographs and paintings. Those differences are about the interaction and understanding of different aspects and stages of visual perception.

Are Photos merely a known fact?

When the moments of the living world are photographed and turn into "pixels", they are no longer real. But when they are reproduced in the form of paintings, perhaps the scenes in the paintings will just like "reflecting again on the moss" to observe the true light silently shines. Thus we could be closer to the true feelings in our real experience. Huang's works are not only the reproduction of photographs, but more often than not, they depict the conscious messages in the fragments. The visual experiences filled with personal perceptions such as details that are reproduced or discarded by choice, the shifting of focal length, or even the hundreds of times magnified image become a kind of existence outside of time.

Huang Chia-Ning, born in Taipei, 1979, currently lives and works in Taichung. In 2006 she received the Kaohsiung Awards, and in 2007 an Honorable Mention of the Taipei Arts Awards. Huang's unique and unconventional realistic painting style garners favorable attention among museums, foundations and collectors. She is labeled as one of the most anticipated contemporary artists in Taiwan. Huang has widely received attention from international collectors and has been repeatedly invited for exhibitions. Her work is in collections of museums and private foundations such as Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, YAGEO Foundation Collection, and Taishin Bank Foundation for Arts and Culture.
