2022 - 2022 ART KAOHSIUNG

  • Art Kaohsiung 2022
  • 2022|11.11 - 11.13
  • The Pier-2 Art Center P3 Booth B03 B04

Lin & Lin Gallery is pleased to present renowned Taiwanese artists Liu Shih-Tung and Lai Chiu-Chen at the 10th Art Kaohsiung. The artists' latest works showcase the diversity of contemporary art in Taiwan, and engage in a dialogue with history from different perspectives, outlining an appearance that transcends the aesthetic traces of the past.

Liu Shih-Tung's works are based on natural and unnatural fragments of culture material collected from daily life. He depicts the real world and constructs a painting space with spirit of oriental poetry by using unique and delicate collage and the aesthetics of creation. His works have long maintained a characteristic of combining fragmented information. Although this fragmented visual information will eventually be united in an aesthetic consciousness and traditional structure, it is precisely these fragments that allow the artist to dismantle and reconstruct the narrative structure and reality of history and memory, forming pictures of life memory.

Lai Chiu-Chen's works carry a whiff of pop art. Western pop culture and the aesthetics of Japanese animation seem to appear frequently in his works, but underneath the surface of his cartoon-like images is actually a constant painting proposition —simulation and reproduction. The spiritual expression of oriental culture, which is beyond the painting, is hidden in the layers and layers of the images. As Lai once said, "I never tell stories", the unique relation between pop culture's elements reveals an alternative reality under the interpretation of the artist, presenting the artist's personal narrative logic and worldview.
