Lin & Lin Gallery is pleased to present Huang Chia-Ning's solo exhibition "Facts, Realities & Truth", which include the latest artworks after her solo show in 2015 at the gallery. In this exhibition, Huang continues her realistic painting technique, depicting the moments taken from everyday life, therefore bringing out the discussion of the balance between the realities and perceptions. The book The Imagination written by Sartre, a French existentialist philosopher, speculated on the relationship of reality and nihil with the examples of white paper and its afterimage (grey paper). By that, it could be said that Huang's realistic paintings are the result of the white and grey papers.
"I have many sheets of grey paper, a lot of things I want to tell. I paint stories about these sheets of grey paper. However, paradoxically, all the grey paper still comes from the white paper in the really world, right? So, is it actually grey or white? It is difficult to tell." —Huang Chia-Ning
"Painting of realism" is a kind of painting in which the artist depicts his or her objective perception of phenomena. The title "Facts, Realities & Truth" is a cognitive process, which formed by at least three steps that the artist is facing, simply put, a process of three Yings: 攖, 滢, and 應. The first Ying (攖) means "to access" or "to extract", suggesting a kind of highly direct physical action or perception particularly with visual and tactile relevance. The second Ying (滢) means "clarity", which has a direct and literal relevance to visual "transparency" and "insight". The third Ying (應) means to be/act what one should or to respond. Compared with the other two, the third Ying is more indicative of an abstract condition of inner thinking.
Through this process, Huang delicately represents each selected moment (攖). The expansion of the image means that the increase of the density of details which is the unique and clear gaze of the artist to objects(滢). Then, the reinterpreting an objective image with a subjective perspective by refocusing, remaining or dismissing details, present the shift between the realities and perceptions, also extract the aesthetic nature out of "ordinary things and phenomena"(應).
In this information era, we are always browsing pictures from all over the world but forgetting about the emotional reality of the real world. Through Huang's paintings and her perception of the world, she brings back memories from life, letting "technology" returns to "humanity" , therefore to aware that realities are just in our perception.
