2010 - SH Contemporary 10 / Special Exhibitions│Chen Chieh-jen

  • SH Contemporary 10 / Special Exhibitions│Chen Chieh-jen
  • 2010|09.09 - 09.12
  • Shanghai Exhibition Centre Booth DIS09

The I Pirate My Own Work ─Free Donation Project is based on an informal kind of business often seen in Taiwan: the street vender. For this action art, Chen Chieh-jen offers pirated versions of his video DVDs at a vending stand outside an exhibition venue (or any public space). After making a voluntary donation of any amount, passers-by can take a pirated DVD of his video work. The content and quality of the DVD is exactly the same as the kind the artistsells in limited editions at galleries; the only difference is that limited edition DVDs are signed by Chen Chieh-jenhimself and come with a certificate of authenticity. All donations collected at the vending site are given to a local charity.
