Lin & Lin Gallery is honored to announce the solo exhibition "Dinner" by Taiwanese contemporary artist Tsai Yi-Ting, which will take place this November. The title of this exhibition "Dinner" originates from the artist's earlier "Dinner" series created around twenty years ago. With the passage of time and the evolution of her personal identity and life experiences, her new works present a fresh interpretation of the theme and techniques from a completely different perspective. Most of Tsai Yi-Ting's works are based on portraits of the people around her and revolve around the depiction of the mental states of different subjects. She attempts to capture the true inner feelings of the characters with acrylic paints and pastels, while at the same time blending saturated and rich colors to create neat and clear images. Strong lines and layered color blocks are stacked to present a profound picture, trying to use different media and forms to have a self-dialogue with the current state.

"I choose paper as a medium because I wanted to feel the deep connection with the paint
as it gets absorbed into the fibers."
— Tsai Yi-Ting

Compared with her consistent depictions of female faces and animals in her surroundings, Tsai continually experiments with various materials and papers, reflecting her preferences and status at different periods. In recent years, she has attempted to disrupt the paper's surface fibers by applying pastels and repeatedly rubbing and refining the paper, which allows the color pigments to seep into the fibers and form a rough, fuzzy texture. The fusion of these elements creates rich and profound imagery.

Additionally, "fur texture", "daily objects", and "human figures" have become the themes that the artist focuses on. In terms of the expression of the paintings, abstract shapes are blended with vibrant colors, and through repeated rubbing, evoke the visual sensation of "fur texture". Dramatic lines and the blending of different color blocks shape various personalities and tensions within her figures, fully demonstrating her mastery and use of materials.

However, while the works in this exhibition seem to be a continuation of her previous creative context, actually represent a transformation in her artistic style, further exploring the process of experimentation with paper. The use of "vivid colors" and "repetitive smearing" showcases a strong style and technique in this collection. By repeatedly rubbing the paper's fibers and experimenting with the texture of pastels, she generates varied traces resembling cotton tufts, creating rich textures against bright colors. This interplay between colors results in layers of textures that are uneven and varied. From portraying human figures to experimenting with pencil on various papers, the artist immerses herself in the properties of paper. Through continuous deconstruction and reassembly, the traces of application and destruction on the paper respond to the works, culminating in pieces that remain true to her artistic self.
