Pink" is a new exhibition by Zhao Zhao, launched in the autumn of 2020 following his previous exhibitions "Green" and "White". The exhibition presents a series of new works created by Zhao Zhao since late 2019, comprising 14 paintings, one installation, and one video work.
"Eating Jade" serves as the centerpiece of the entire exhibition. It references the ancient Chinese tales from the Wei and Jin dynasties about consuming jade to achieve immortality, exploring the relationships between food and longevity, desire and procreation, and the connection between diet and views of nature. Accompanying the historical development and civilizational progress of both the East and the West, food has formed a "culinary culture" that is inextricably linked to our lives. It is a fundamental necessity for human survival, yet it has also sparked a series of ethics, social etiquette, spiritual symbols, and myths. This aligns perfectly with the "Longevity Peach", "Bamboo Shoot", and "Peach" series in Zhao Zhao’s oeuvre.
The exhibition also cites four ancient poems as metaphors for the exhibition's atmosphere. These are themed around four key elements found in Zhao Zhao’s works—"Pink", "Desire", "Food", and "Immortal"—guiding us toward a broader journey of spiritual imagination and contemplation.
