The National Museum of History is currently hosting the exhibition The Birth of Modernist Art Movement in Taiwan, featuring Chinese leading artists Chen Tao-Ming, Yan Hsia, Hsiao Chin, all of whom co-founded Ton Fon Art Group and have in collaboration with Lin & Lin Gallery. In terms of its overall creative direction, they always insisted on an "Eastern spirit" that was "not restricted to literati ink painting",  an idea emphasized by their mentor Li Chun-shan, and had demonstrated abundant and diverse styles.

The "Fifth Moon Group" and the "Ton-Fan Art Group" were two painting groups founded in the late 1950s, and respectively presented their first exhibitions in the May and November of 1957. Both groups changed the developmental trajectory of Taiwan's art scene, and have become major indicators in the post-war Taiwanese art history and key forces that brought about the "Modern Painting Movement" in Taiwan.
